Hi, dear readers. This post is a part of a (possibly) long-term series termed the beauty of ideologies (political). So today (or whenever you read this which would of course be a day) I'll be focusing on Communism as an Ideology: dealing with it's meaning, it's relationship as an Ideology and finally it's similarity with it's biggest rival (Capitalism).
So, this is the beginning of the analysis on Communism: Marx's greatest Ideology.
So basically as an ideology, Communism has to do with the organization of the economy in a way where ownership of property is given to a classless society where wealth is equally distributed on the basis of “to each according to his need” and “from each according to his ability”.
Further more we can trace the origin of this ideology to Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels where in his Communist Manifesto he made his readers to understand his theory of Historical Materialism. He made us understand that Communism was the synthesis i.e. the end product of the struggle between Capitalism and Socialism. We were further made to know that the basis of this struggle was the economic mode of production and that this struggle will lead to lead to the birth of Communism and unlike other ideologies it was seen to be the ideal ideology i.e it is the last kind of economic system that would evolve from Marx's theory of Dialectic Materialism.
That wraps up the first segment of our analysis which concerns the definition and the origin of the ideology as a concept.
To begin our second analysis which has to do with the contradicting features of Communism and Capitalism, we need to know that although their naming both (ironicly) came from the same source (Karl Marx in his Communist Manifestoes) they have serious contradicting features.
Their contradicting features are:
• Their type of economy: Although not the right way to name it but it is a great difference, as Communism believe in a centrally planned economy which has to do with the control of the economy by the state; the Capitalist believe in more if a laissez faire economy where there is free trade and lack of trade restrictions with an economy that is fully controlled by the powers of demand and supply.
• While Capitalism believes in private ownership of property while Communism believes in more of a communal ownership of property
• They also have different views on the distribution of wealth, the Communist believes in more of an equal distribution of wealth while the Capitalist believes in an unequal distribution of wealth.
• Then lastly ownership of property in a Communist state is based on consumption i.e to “to everyone his needs and from everyone his ability” while in a Capitalist state it is not based on consumption.
